Walkthrough of The Phobos Directive

MAP E1M1 Objectives:
Primary: Turn on Primary Power to activate teleporter pads to other maps
Secondary: Acquire Combat Weapon
Mission Prerequisites: None

1. Go to the South quadrant of the map and pick up the combat shotgun.
2. Return to the North quadrant and press the keyboard in front of the "reactor".
3. Return to the Central quadrant and walk into any of the teleporter pads.

TIP 1: The shotgun upgrade is quickly available near the start area of Map E1M8, and you can return to Map E1M1 with little delay.
TIP 2: The chaingun is quickly available not far from the start area (to the East) of map E1M6.
TIP 3: The chaingun upgrade is available in E1M7, not far from the start area and more-or-less due North. It is in the alcove in the central nukage area.
TIP 4: The chaingun and rocket launcher upgrades are available in E1M8, but you'll need to get the circuit board and the blue key to reach that area. The plasma rifle upgrade is available later in E1M8, but you'll need the plasma rifle from E1M5 to get there.
TIP 5: Chaingun, rocket launcher, and plasma rifle upgrades are all available in secret areas scattered throughout the hub.

MAP E1M2
Primary: Collect Blue Key Card for access to Sector VIII
Secondary: Collect Radiation Suit for Sector V
Mission Prerequisites: Pick up Red Key Card from Sector VII

1. Go to the East quadrant of the map and pick up the Radiation Suit.
2. Either take the nearby teleporter to Map E1M5 or return to the teleporter pad at the map start and return to Map E1M1.
3. Once you have picked up the red key from Map E1M7, return to Map E1M2 and go through the red-key door near the map start.
4. Take the first right to the nukage area, press the switch, and return to find an open door.
5. Go through the door and head to the SW corner of that darkened computer area. Press the switch to open a couple of doors, then go into the corridor you can see from the switch area.
6. Take the stairs up, take the lift up, cross the bridge, and enter a room that looks out to a nukage area. Press the switch to open a couple of doors.
7. Go through the door at the other end of the nukage area, take the lift down, and head North-East to pick up the blue key. You need this key for an area in Map E1M8.
8. Return to start area and enter teleporter pad to return to Map E1M1.

MAP E1M3
Primary: Collect Yellow Key Card for access to Sector VII
Secondary: None
Mission Prerequisites: None

1. There are 3 switches that you need to press to allow access to the yellow key. You can press them in any order; the following walkthrough takes you in a clockwise direction around the map, but you could just as easily take a counter-clockwise route.
2. Find the switch in the South-West quadrant of the map, in the computer area.
3. Proceed to the Northern quadrant and press the switch in the nukage area. This is the second of the three switches.
4. Proceed to the South-East quadrant of the map, pass the forcefield that protects the elevator door, and press the third of the three switches.
5. Return to the start area, cross the bridge across the nukage, and go all the way back to get the yellow key. You need this key for an area in Map E1M7.
6. Return to start area and enter teleporter pad to return to Map E1M1.

MAP E1M4
Primary: None
Secondary: Access Secret Level Sector IX
Mission Prerequisites: Find Green Key

1. As there is no primary objective for this map, no walkthrough is necessary.
2. Once you have the green key [found in Map E1M7] come back to this map and proceed to the North-East quadrant of the map. You'll find the green-key door, behind which is the teleporter pad that will take you the secret map [Map E1M9].

MAP E1M5
Primary: Pick up Plasma Rifle
Secondary: None
Mission Prerequisites: Collect Radiation Suit from Sector II

1. You can enter this map either from Map E1M1 or from Map E1M2. Either way, you'll need to have picked up the radiation suit from Map E1M2 before you can proceed.
2. You'll need to press 3 switches to allow access to the plasma rifle, which is on a pillar in a nukage pool. You can only proceed counter-clockwise through the map.
3. Jump into the nukage pool and crawl through the nukage tunnel until you get outdoors.
4. Re-enter the building and press the first switch to your right, which will raise the bars near the catwalk across the nukage area in front of you.
5. Take the catwalk and passage until you come to an area overlooking the plasma rifle from the East. Press the switch in the room; this is the first of the 3 switches.
6. Follow the circular corridor around and when you come out of the dark passageway take the steps down to see the plasma rifle pillar to your South. Press the switch near the window; this is the second of the three switches.
7. Go through the dark room and proceed until you come outdoors. Take the first left into the building, up the circular stairs, and up the lift until you see the plasma rifle pillar to your East. Entering the area lowers the pillar, and pressing the switch lowers the force-field around the plasma rifle.
8. Continue around to get back to the start area. [Look for the radiation suit on the way there; it's not obvious, but it's not a secret either.] Cross the nukage area at the start and go straight to pick up the plasma rifle.
9. Return to start area and enter teleporter pad to return to Map E1M1.

MAP E1M6
Primary: Pick up Circuit Board
Secondary: None
Mission Prerequisites: None

1. From the start, head straight then turn right towards the computer area. [Before turning right you'll see a force-field straight ahead. You'll turn that off later.] Go through the computer area, pass a force-field to your left, ride the lift down, and find the switch that turns the force-field off. [Above the switch is the area with the circuit board.]
2. Go through the force-field "doorway" and proceed around the darkened/nukage areas until you come to a door that takes you to the back of the force-field you saw near the start area. [Remember to turn this force-field off, to allow an easy return later.]
3. Head North through one of the doors or the central lift.
4. Take the bridge across the nukage pool, go through the door and down the stairs, turn right, and follow the corridor to a switch.
5. Press the switch to raise a set of stairs, which you'll see rising in front.
6. Return to the bridge over the nukage pool, turn left and take the steps up to the teleporter at the top.
7. Teleport to the circuit board area, pick it up, then return to the teleporter pad at the top of the steps.
8. Return to start area and enter teleporter pad to return to Map E1M1.

MAP E1M7
Primary: Pick up Red Key Card for access to Sector II
Secondary: Pick up Green Key Card for access to secret level Sector IX
Mission Prerequisites: Pick up Yellow Key Card from Sector III

1. From the start, find your way to the switch to the West of the central nukage pool.[Going generally due North from the start area will get you there.] Pressing the switch will open a door to a platform at the other end of the nukage pool.
2. Continue Northwards and around the circular area until you come to the opened door to the platform. Enter the area and press the switch to lower the red-key pillar in the area to the South of the nukage area.
3. Continue around (Southward) until you come to the corridor leading to the red-key area.
4. If you have the yellow key [found in Map E1M3] turn right at that corridor, go through the yellow-key door, and pick up the red key.
5. Return to start area and enter teleporter pad to return to Map E1M1.

MAP E1M8
Primary: Destroy final opposition and escape Phobos
Secondary: Repair Pneumatic Pump to remove radiation
Mission Prerequisites: Pick up Blue Key Card from Sector II
Mission Prerequisites: Pick up Plasma Rifle from Sector V
Mission Prerequisites: Pick up Circuit Board from Sector VI

1. From the start, turn left and enter the pump area.
2. Go to the pump-control room and insert the circuit board into the slot near the open panel.
3. Press the adjacent keyboard to start the pumps, which will remove the radioactive vapors from the nearby nukage area.
4. Return to the start area and go through the doors to the nukage area.
5. Go through the blue-key door, turn either left or right, press the switch, go to the other side and press that switch, then continue Northwards to the force-field.
6. If you have the plasma rifle you'll be able to deactivate the force-field and proceed Northwards.
7. Enter the pentagram area and after you've taken care of the opposition the walls will lower and you can jump down into the final arena.
8. After you take care of the opposition, steps to the exit platform will rise.
9. Take the stairs up and step onto the exit pads.

MAP E1M9
Primary: None
Secondary: None

1. There is no primary objective for this map. However, once you've entered the map you will need all three keys to exit. This walkthrough tells you how to get the keys.
2. From the start, head in a Northward direction until you come to the circular nukage channel. Jump in, run to the far end, and take the steps up to the area with the yellow skull key.
3. Pick up the yellow skull key, press the switch to blow up the railings and raise the bridge, and cross over the nukage channel.
4. Head to the Eastern quadrant, run across the kidney-shaped nukage pool, and go through the yellow-skull door. Pick up the blue skull key inside.
5. Head to the Western quadrant, go through the blue-skull door, and pick up the red skull key.
6. Head to the Southern quadrant, take the stairs to the ledge and follow it around to the North-Western corner of the room and eventually to the switch behind the area with the red-skull bars. [This area can also be accessed from the central outdoor area with the cage - jump into the nukage pool and follow the circular channel up the stairs to the switch.]
7. Press the switch to raise the bridge across the nukage, allowing access to the red-skull bars.
8. Return to the central outdoor area, cross the bridge, and raise the red-skull bars.
9. Press the switch to raise the bars to the teleporter. Step onto the teleporter to be taken into the cage in the central outdoor area. This also lowers the bars to the start/exit area.
10 Wait for the pillar of the cage to lower, then return to start area and enter teleporter pad to return to Map E1M4.

Secrets in The Phobos Directive

Map E1M1: [Sector I: UAC Control Center, Phobos]

1. Rocket Launcher behind force field [224, -2656]: In the "Power Plant" room, run and jump on the keyboard, then jump again onto the pipe; your best bet is to angle yourself as you run towards the keyboard. Walk to the North end of the room, shoot out the grate, jump into the duct, and follow it to the room with the rocket launcher.
2. Lite Armor behind glass barrier [-1952, -352]: There's a switch nearby that lowers a lift in the storage room below. Press the switch, jump through the window, run to the door below and open it, and get on the lift before it rises. Press the switch at the top of the lift to lower the glass barrier.

Map E1M2: [Sector II: Primary Reactor]

1. Backpack behind bars [160, 160]: From the start, go up the stairs and take the first left. A wall behind you lowers before rising again. Stepping into the area behind the lowering wall will lower other walls nearby, opening alcoves. The alcove to the Southwest has a switch, which opens the door to the room with the ammo pack.
2. Radiation Suit, hidden [-160, 800]: After going through the red-key door run through the first corridor to your right, enter the nukage area and run clockwise around the wall. You'll see a section of the wall open, leading to the radiation suit. (If you weren't quick enough to notice where the wall opened, look for a slightly misaligned texture.)
3. Healing Potions, hidden [-160, 640]: After picking up the radiation suit, press on the wall with the POISON sign to enter another secret area.
4. Weapon Upgrade on pillar [-160, 640]: After going through the computer area to the South of the map, you will climb a curved stairway that takes you to a lift. (After that you need to cross the bridgeto proceed in the level.) Stepping into that area opens the door to the passage outside, and an alcove with an enemy. The alcove with the enemy has a wall with a different texture. Press on this, then on the switch behind, then run back down the stairs to an opened area that will lead to the pillar. Note that the type of weaon upgrade will depend on what type of weapon you already have.
5. Lite Armor, Hidden [-5760, -672]: When you press the switch to lower the pillar it lowers a nearby wall that was concealing an alcove. Shoot the grate in the corner of the alcove to enter the secret lab area. The armor is at the far Southwestern part of this area.
6. Shotgun Upgrade, hidden [-1312, 1632]: In the hexagonal nukage area, run into the nukage passage and press the switch at the end. This will open the wall leading to the area above the hexagonal pit area to the North. (You'll also need to open the main door to the area, which can be done from inside the room to the South of the Hexagonal nukage area. This, of course, is not a secret.)

Map E1M3: [Sector III: Hazardous Waste Treatment]

1. Backpack behind glass [480, -1376]: From the start look for the computer in the corner of the start room. Open the panel and go through the duct; shoot the grate.
2. BlurArtifact behind glass [480, -1376]: From the start, go left around the nukage area. Opening the first door also opens a panel in the bank of computers at the top of the stairs. Run up the stairs and into the secret area. Note, the panel is only opened when the door downstairs is opened from the *outside*.
3. Rocket Launcher behind glass [-544, -1376]: From the start go right around the nukage area, through the door, and take the passage to the right. Stepping into the passage briefly raises a door in the tech-looking section around the other side of the curved passageway. Jump into the area with the teleporter that takes you to the rocket launcher.
4. To the right of the passage into which you step to raise the door (see 3, above) there is a wall with a different texture. Pressing this lowers a lift to the secret area. In the secret area look for a wall with a badly aligned texture. Press it to open a window that you can use to snipe at enemies in the secret exit area. (This is not a secret.)
5. Secret Lab [1904, -480]: After you find the switch at the Southeast quadrant of the map, look behind it to sind another switch. This deactivates the nearby force field, allowing you access to the secret lab.
6. Plasma Rifle Upgrade, hidden [2912, -1728]: In the secret lab take the steps to the platform, jump onto the nearby computer panel, and continue jumping until you're on the computer panel beneath the vent grate. Shoot out the grate and enter the duct.
7. Secret Area [-160, 1008]: After opening the force field barrier at the bridge, enter the area across the bridge. After clearing out the enemies, go to the lift at the North of the area. The wall to the left is textured differently. Lower it to enter a secret area. There are no goodies here, but this allows access to the SectorMap (see 8, below).
8. SectorMap, hidden [-1504, 1120]: After entering the secret area in 7, above, press the switch and run West into the secret area with the SectorMap.

Map E1M4: [Sector IV: Command Post Omega]

1. Backpack behind bars [128, -2400]: From the start, you will see a passage to the right with an ammo pack. Proceed outdoors and go to the computer area to the East. Ride the lift up, press the switch, and run back outside. The small door leading to the passage will temporarily open, allowing you access to the ammo pack.
2. SoulSphere behind bars [-448, -2112]: In the outdoors area you will see a soul sphere in the Southwest quadrant. Enter the passageway at the Western end of the outdoor area, and head North until you see a switch in an alcove. Press the switch and run back to the lowered lift, which will lead to a circular nukage passageway and another switch. This switch will operate the lift to a platform that will allow you to reach the soul sphere.
3. LightAmp Goggles, hidden [256, 2912]: In the dark area to the North with the 9 armor bonuses, after picking up the bonuses head North into the darkened area. Look for a very slightly misaligned texture. Press on it and the wall will lower to reveal the secret area.
4. Rocket Launcher, hidden [1696, -160]: To access the secret in the dark/blinking octagonal area to the East, go around the curved corridor, ride the lift up, and hug the wall to your left until you see a small barrier rising. Go around to the other side and step down across the lower part of the barrier. Follow the gently curved corridor to the now-open section of wall overlooking the dark/blinking octagonal area. Step down to lower the central section and reveal the secret area with the rocket launcher.
5. Secret Lab [-336, 1120]: After you pick up the 9 armor bonuses (see 3, above), shoot out the vent grate in the Western wall and jump into the duct.
6. Rocket Launcher Upgrade, hidden [2912, -1728]: In the secret lab take the pneumatic lift up to the computer control area overlooking the pipe, jump onto the crate below, and continue jumping until you're on the roof of the nukage area beneath the vent grate. Shoot out the grate and enter the duct.

Map E1M5: [Sector V: Fissile Materials Laboratory]

1. Green Armor, hidden [400, 496]: From the start, follow the nukage channel to the right, re-enter the building, and go through the first door on the left. On the far right is a differently-textured wall. Press the wall to open the secret area.
2. Backpack, hidden [576, 800]: After pressing the switch in the chamber that allows access to the rest of the map, proceed to the nukage area with the plasma rifle. Stepping outside lowers a lift in the chamber up the stairs next to you. (The wall is marked with a differently textured wall.) Take the lift down.
3. BlurArtifact, hidden [1036, 1472]: Continue past the curving nukage room, go through the dark corridor, enter the computer room and turn right. In the next computer room there's a sunken area with a couple of shotgun guys (only one guy in Skills 1 & 2). Go down there and note the misaligned panel. Press this panel and enter the secret area.
4. LightAmp Goggles, hidden [-224, 2032]: In the dark chamber with blinking lights (at the North-Central end of the map) there is a stack of crates with a vent grate behind. Jump up the crates, shoot out the grate, and jump into the duct.
5. Secret Lab [576, 2668]: In the dark chamber with blinking lights, when you enter the area with the switch some walls will open up revealing alcoves. One alcove has a vent grate; shoot it out to enter the secret.
6. Rocket Launcher [-736, 2016]: Enter the chamber with the pentagon within a circle, which has a rocket launcher in the middle. Look for a discolored wall, press it, enter the secret area, and teleport to the middle of the circle to get the rocket launcher.
7. Lite Armor [-1248, 1120]: Enter the circular area to the West of the map with nukage, a ledge, and a pillar. Press the switch on the pillar, step on the pillar and ride to the top, and look for a small recess in the wall. The recess has a button. Shoot the button to make a pillar begin to rise in front of you. Step onto the rising pillar, and before it reaches the top run off it to reach the ledge with the pillar. If you don't jump off in time, you can press the switch at the top to lower the pillar and try again.

Map E1M6: [Sector VI: Materiel Processing]

1. Backpack, hidden [704, -176]: From the start take the right fork, enter the computer area, turn right and enter the computer alcove, and on the left wall look for a misaligned electrical panel. Press on it to access the backpack.
2. Berserk [-1360, 176]: From the start take the right fork, enter the nukage area, jump down to the Southeast to pick up the radiation suit, then run around into the nukage tunnel. After the curve, crouch underwater and turn right into the tunnel to reach the secret.
3. Health Pack, hidden [1888, 96]: In the maze in the Eastern quadrant of the map, on one of the walls along the Western end of the maze is a wall with a light texture but no light is being emitted. Press on the light and the wall will lower.
4. SoulSphere behind bars [416, 3168]: After emerging from the maze in the Eastern quadrant of the map, jump up on the crate, shoot out the vent grate, and jump into the duct. Follow it to the outdoor area with the switch and use the lift to get up to the goodies.
5. Secret Lab [-1568, 2016]: On your way to press the switch that raises the steps at the North end of the map, you'll take a set of curving stairs down. In the SouthWest corner of the room are some crates that obscure a vent grate. Jump up onto the crates, shoot out the vent grate, and jump down into the duct.

EASTER EGG: This does not count as a secret, but it's cool if you discover it on your own. From the start go straight and turn at your first left. As you go along the path, there is the infamous chamber with barrels to your right. DO NOT SHOOT THE BARRELS. [Well, that was one way of making sure that at least some of you will shoot the barrels.] Enter the chamber, turn left, and use a pistol to shoot into the far wall. Voila! you magically acquire a soul sphere and a blue armor!

Map E1M7: [Sector VII: Data Central]

1. Backpack, hidden [-1072, -384]: From the start turn left and follow the passageway until you reach the computer-type area on the left. Take the lift up, get on the ledge, and find the slightly recessed section of the computer panel on the right wall. Press the panel to access the backpack.
2. SectorMap, hidden [-256, 0]: From the start, turn left and follow the passageway until you reach the computer-type area on the right. Turn right into the area and find the alcove with the rare LITERED texture. Press on the computer panel to open the door and access the swtich. This switch lowers the nearby lift, which allows access to the secret.
3. SoulSphere on pillar [416, 3168]: From the start, go North until you pass the door leading to the bridge with the invisibility. Take your first left and go up the curved stairway, and straight into the passageway ahead. You will see the soul sphere on a pillar in the nukage before looping back around into a chamber with an electrical panel with a randomly blinking light. Press the panel to enter a chamber with a switch. Press the switch and return to the window over the nukage. A wall and the pillar will have lowered, allowing you to pick up the soul sphere.
4. Berserk [-576, 1664]: When you pick up the invisibility on the bridge, a door in front opens and imps emerge. In that alcove is a switch that opens a door around the corner and down the stairs. This takes you to the secret area.
5. Green Key behind force field [2416, 144]: Next to the Berserk (see 4, above) is a teleporter that will take you to the secret lab area. Take the stairs up, and jump on the computer panel and then onto the pipe. Drop down into the pipe. [Note: You'll need to *walk* over the hatch and position yourself exactly in the middle to fit through.] Drop down into the glassed-in area, shoot out the vent grate, and enter the area with the green key.

Map E1M8: [Sector VIII: Phobos Anomaly]

1. Invulnerability behind bars [112, 704]: After picking up the Soul Sphere, turn into the dark area to your right. As you face the switch go to the right wall and look for a very slightly misaligned texture. Press on it and the wall will lower. Enter the area and press the wall at the end to open a door to the secret.

Map E1M9: [Sector IX: Munitions Depot]

NOTE: To access this secret map, you'll need to pick up the green key from Map E1M7, then go to Map E1M4 and use the teleporter tube behind the green key door.

1. Backpack, hidden [-528, -304]: From the start area, drop into the nukage pit leading to the "exit". On the right is a recessed section of the wall. Press it to enter the secret area with the backpack. Do this before pressing the switch to raise the bridge to the exit chamber. If you raise the bridge, you'll need to run through the curved nukage tunnel and back from the switch area.
2. Chaingun Upgrade [1536, 1120]: Go through the yellow-key door. On the left wall will be a double set of electrical/computer panel doors, one of which is slightly recessed. Press the panel door to enter the secret area.
3. Invisibility on pillar [960, 960]: After entering secret area 2, press the wall behind to lower the lift. From the corridor above, jump across to the pillar with the invisibility.
4. Rocket Launcher, hidden [3072, -896]: In the same area for Secret 2, above, look for another recessed computer panel on the North wall. Open it to pick up a radiation suit, and press the switch hidden behind the suit. Run back outside and jump into the nukage pool. At the South end is a pit that leads to a tunnel, that leads to the secret lab.
5. Lite Armor, on roof [3680, 1184]: Go North through the secret lab, then East into the outdoor storage area. Jump onto the crates to reach the vent grate, shoot it out, and jump into the duct to reach the secret.
